Museum as Molecule

This was a project for the Holburne Museum in Bath. ‘Museum as the Molecule’ is a response to the theme of connection, which emerged from the comments of over 1000 people who shared their ideas about why museums matter as part of a public consultation. The molecular structure aims to take viewers on a journey through the collection of the museum and uses colours, materials (metals, timbers, stone) and surfaces that reference specific items in the collection.

The structure is inspired by mid-century scientific molecular models and features a range of materials and techniques, painted balls, gilded metal balls, CNC cut timber, cast stone and resin.

The sculpture was exhibited for several months as part of the ‘Why Museums Matter’ exhibition at the museum in 2019.
